When to Refer for Medication Support under the NDIS

Referral for medication support may be appropriate when a participant experiences difficulty understanding their medications, following routines, or managing changes.

This may include situations where:

  • Medication regimens are complex

  • There are frequent changes to prescriptions

  • Routines are inconsistent or easily disrupted

  • Confidence with medications is low

  • Support staff change regularly

  • There have been near misses or incidents

Early referral can help reduce risk, build understanding, and support safer, more confident daily medication use.
